KAI Pinot Noir
Wairarapa
A wet and cold September resulted in a late start to the season. One of the hottest Februarys on record and low rainfall during March allowed for perfect ripening conditions.
9th April 2016
Hand-picked and carefully selected 100% Abel Clone Pinot Noir grapes. All de-stemmed, cold-macerated and fermented in small batch stainless steel vats and left on grape skins for 4 weeks. Aged in 100% new French oak barriques of the Bourgogne Tonnelleries Rousseau, Remond and Meyrieux for 20 months. No fining and only light filtration before bottling.

Deep and complex bouquet of red cherry and sweet raspberry, pomegranate, and hints of fresh zesty blood orange. Full-bodied yet extremely elegant, fine-grained but present tannins, minerally, youthful acidity and hints of Five Spice and a deep core of cool, vibrant fruit, lovely length, and persistence.

Block B Pinot Noir
Wairarapa
Spring frosts and less than ideal flowering conditions led to poor fruit set. A dry and not too hot summer brought favourable ripening conditions.
16th – 23rd March 2021
Block B is a selection of the Dijon Pinot Noir clones; specifically the clones 115, 667, 777, 114 and 113. Hand-picked and careful selection of grapes. 100% de-stemmed, cold-maceration and fermentation in stainless steel vats and left on skins for 3 weeks. Aged in 45% new and 55% used French oak barriques for 18 months.

Dark cherries and baked plums are unfolding from the glass, transitioning into thyme and violets with impressions of cassis, sandalwood, and cinnamon. A complex wine with a firm tannin structure, yet smooth mouthfeel. The supporting role of oak intensifies the underlying dark cacao and spicy characters.

Marions Vineyard Pinot Noir

Marion’s Vineyard is a selection of predominantly two Pinot Noir clones; the Pommard and the Abel clone. Hand-picked and careful selection of grapes.100% de-stemmed, cold-maceration and fermentation in stainless steel vats and left on skins for 3 weeks. Aged in 35% new and 65% used French oak barriques for 18 months.
3rd March 2023

Luscious flavours of ripe strawberries and cherries with hints of dark chocolate and pinecones. Spicy, with well-rounded, silky tannins. Ripe red fruit flavours obtain complexity from hints of savoury characters, cinnamon and Rosemary.

Syrah

Hand-picked, carefully selected grapes, 100% de-stemmed. Cold-macerated and fermented in stainless steel vats and left on the grape skins for 3 weeks. Aged in 35% new and 65% used French oak barriques for 33 months.

Lively purple-red colour, flavours of dark cherries and black currant, notes of white pepper, bacon, and a hint of green olives. Elegantly structured with vivid acidity and lots of freshness. The finish shapes, develops, and lingers, with minerality, bacon, black cherries, and a hint of dark chocolate in the finish. This will age and evolve nicely for a couple of decades.

Aged in 15% new and 85% used French Oak barriques for 4 years.

Deeply concentrated and intense aromas of ripe
blackberry and cassis fruit melded with notes of dark raspberries entwined with spices of liquorish, cloves and black pepper with reflections of vanilla and sandalwood. Long, lingering but at the same time soft tannins across the palate and oaky characters build complexity, combined with a vibrant acidity.

Sauvignon Blanc

October was the only month where rainfall was not significantly higher than a typical year in the Wairarapa. Picking started in early March due to the challenging conditions.

100% de-stemmed and maceration on skins. Fermentation in different tanks and partly in French oak barriques.

An expressive bouquet of citrus and tropical fruit accompanied by flinty mineral notes. The invigorating entrance of lime and grapefruit is underlined with a touch of fresh cut herbs, a vibrant, well-balanced acidity and underlying spice.
This is the perfect match to mouth-watering New Zealand bluff oysters.

Chardonnay

The growing season was near perfect, with early flowing and favorable fruit set. Nature was on our side up until an unusually wet February and March, which left us with a very narrow picking window.

Hand-picked, whole bunch pressed and fermented in French Oak barriques with occasional battonage.
10th February 2023
13.5% VOL
Fresh and crisp lemon aromatics with reflections of peach and apple.
A young and lively, moreish style of Chardonnay, with subtle vanilla and honeysuckle hints.
Enjoy now, or cellar for a couple of years.

Cuvée of three white grape varieties: Chardonnay,
Pinot Gris and Müller-Thurgau. Hand-picked, whole bunch pressed and fermented in 100% used French Oak barriques & puncheons. Some maturation sur lie with occasional battonage.

Beautiful fresh floral aromatics with reflections grapefruit and orange blossom.
A smooth and creamy wine with expressions of yellow stone fruit, almonds, and subtle yeasty characters.
The perfect accompaniment with Scallops and spicy Thai food.

100% Pinot Noir. Hand-picked, de-stemmed and cold-macerated on skins for 5 hours then pressed. Fermented in stainless steel tanks.

Martinborough
October was the only month where rainfall was not significantly higher than in a typical year in the Wairarapa. Picking started in early March due to the high disease pressure.
Various pickings in April 2023
This luscious wine obtained its name from the Italian Vintner who started planting this vineyard in Martinborough in 1989. Hand-picked, whole bunch pressed and fermented in stainless steel. Fermentation stopped at 9.5%VOL.

A fragrant bouquet of ripe vineyard peach and dried apricots with a hint of orange blossom. On the tongue, a welcoming entrance of ripe peaches with notes of caramelised pear and honeydew melon underlined by layers of silky spice.
