Schubert Wines - 2011 Pinot Noir "Marion's Vineyard"
|
ORIGIN: Wairarapa CLIMATIC CONDITIONS: Cool spring and summer resulted in the vines being behind all season. The harvest started three weeks later than in a more usual year. Yet sunshine during April ensured perfect ripening conditions. DATE OF HARVEST: 14 - 20 April 2011 HARVEST & VINIFICATION: Marion’s Vineyard is a selection of predominantly two Pinot Noir clones; the Pommard and the Abel clone. Hand-picked and careful selection of grapes. 100% de-stemmed, cold-maceration and small batch fermentation in stainless steel vats and left on “skins” for 3 weeks. Aged in 40 % new and 60 % used French oak barriques for 16 months. DATE OF BOTTLING: 11 December 2012 ALC: 14.0% VOL
TASTING NOTES: Very fine layers of orange, strikingly ripe and sweet aromas of raspberry, boysenberry and morello cherry with hints of Mediterranean spices in the nose. This ruby coloured medium to full bodied wine has a great morello cherry filled palate with layers of sassafras and wild herbs showing good acidity balance, minerality and elegance. Long lasting finish with some spicy, earth undertones including mushrooms and olives leading to an approachable but firm tannic structure.
DRINKING TEMPERATURE: 16-18 ºC CELLARING: 4 - 10 years |
